SDSU Student works at Argonne National Laboratory

This summer SDSU student Britteny Bullis got the experience of a lifetime with an internship at Argonne National Laboratory. Her research project on Model Mapping to Higher Dimensional Networks provided an opportunity to work with one of the fastest supercomputers in the world, Blue Gene/P. Using her knowledge from SDSU, Bullis developed a parallel solution to solving a two-dimensional Poisson equation and then scaled it to run on the 16,384 processors of the Blue Gene/P system. She then ran several different trials of mapping techniques to determine which layout maximized the algorithm’s performance. “I was able to gain valuable real world experience while working with distinguished researchers,” said Bullis of the experience.
