Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Student research opportunities are abundant in the EE department at SDSU. The department's
faculty have funded research that provides numerous opportunities for students to be involved
first-hand in cutting edge research wor. EE faculty who have these funded research opportunities
advertise their openings within the department, and at any given time the department typically
has 8-12 students working in these research assistant positions.
Many students involved in this research work contribute to published scientific papers and appear
as co-authors for several works. Several of our EE students have also
won national and international awards for their research work. Such work is of particular significance
for those students desiring to go on to careers in scientific research and development. Of course the
students also have the opportunity to earn some money while completing this work, and are provided with
an office and flexible work schedules that allow them to work around their courses. Although they are
employees, their own course work and progress remains our highest priority.
The SDSU Department of Electrical Engineering has the distinction of having one of the highest
involvements of undergraduate students in research and scholarly work. Our list of
scientific publications with student co-authors is evidence of this
involvement.
